Gray’s College Bookstores Presents Donation Checks to
USF’s Project ABLE and Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind

Donated Textbooks Provide Funding Source to Help Readers Who are Blind

Tampa, FL October 6, 2008: Textbooks donated by students this Fall semester have turned into cash donations to the Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind and Project ABLE, a USF student advocacy organization. Working with Gray’s College Bookstore, the Project ABLE student group was able to provide collection points around the USF Tampa campus and in turn have the donated books sold online to other students around the country. The monies raised from these sales has resulted in an initial fundraising effort of more than $3,000.00, of which $2,500.00 will be given to the Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind.

“Gray’s Bookstore is very proud to help in the efforts of these students to raise funds and increase awareness in the USF community of the needs of others,” said owner Jim Gray. “We are pleased to provide an outlet to turn these unwanted texts into funds the organizations can use to the benefit of those in need.”

This check will be presented during the luncheon portion of the USF Accessi-Bull: Showcasing Abilities conference on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 and is part of the Hillsborough County Mentoring Day activities. “Accessi-Bull: Showcasing Abilities” is an annual event with the goal of creating awareness and educating the university and community on issues related to people with disabilities, and highlights projects which focus on topics such as innovative services for this community of people, issues of accessibility, and the importance of inclusion.
